First Chickens on Pasture!

Chickens on pasture! It is always a wonderful day when the first chickens head out to pasture. We've all been waiting for the pastures to green up, and the cows and pigs get an early start.

Chickens, however, must be patient and wait until their feathers are mature enough to keep them warm on our chilly May evenings. Susu, our fearless chicken herding dog is also thrilled to have work to do.

What do we do when it is cold and rainy all week?

Chickens are not like ducks, they do not like the cold and wet weather.

As the rainfall stubbornly persisted this week the pastures became saturated and to keep the chickens warm and dry i bring out a few hay bales and spread out hay inside the coop. This gives them a warm and dry place to bed down.

They also enjoy foraging around in the wet grass pecking slugs and bugs. The hay bed gives them a place to dry off and stay warm.

What is Subscribe + Save and how can I help?

You may have noticed a new option at checkout? Here's what we've been thinking: When we asked ourselves, “How can we create a true win/win for our customers and our farm?” the answer was clear: build long-term relationships with the families who trust us to put food on their tables. That’s where our new Subscribe & Save program comes in.

What was the Reber Rock Retreat?

Another transition was also marked a few weeks ago by our now annual transformational retreat. Over the last few years we’ve been taking steps towards becoming your trusted source for food AND health. Health, and sensation based mindset coaching specifically, became a passion over ours following Nathan’s herniated disk and Racey’s Cervical cancer diagnosis a few years ago.
