Gift Forward Abundance

Did you know 2026 is the year of the Fire Horse?  A combination in the Chinese zodiac that we only see every 60 years. Special.

What does that have to do with farming, you say?  It means that I am preparing myself to be swept into the exhilarating spirit of this season. It means that I am prepared for the fire element in me that brings joy, passion and connection to combine with the horse's natural strength and bring bold action, innovation and a drive for freedom.

In fact, this week, I've already been swept into an exhilarating spirit: 675 chicks arrived to start the season, 2 of our 12 sows farrowed, 2 of our Jamaican staff returned, the wind blew and the moon was bright.

Part of my exhilaration this week comes from a new opportunity we have to offer you.

Gift Forward Abundance

If you are able, purchase food credit that we will gift forward 100% to our Adirondack neighbors.  We feel passionately about food, and want everyone in our community to have local access to organic, pastured, grass fed meats and maple syrup if they desire it.  AdkAction, a local non-profit that support food access, will match the dollar value of all of your donations up to $11,000.

Credit will flow to eligible folks as soon as donations are received.  Credit can be used at our locations throughout 2026:

  • Reber Rock Online store (weekly delivery year round)
  • Reber Rock Farm Store @ 1693 Jersey Street, Essex, NY 12936 (open daily)
  • Keene Valley Farmers Market (May-Oct)
  • Saranac Lake Farmers Market (May-Oct)
  • Lake Placid Farmers Market (May-Oct)

If someone you know needs financial assistance to buy food this year, and lives in Essex, Franklin, Herkimer, St. Lawrence, Fulton, Saratoga, Washington or Warren Counties of NY, please tell them to give us a call to get more information about how to receive food credit or share this eligibility form with them

Thank you for joining us in this community. This is only one way we want to share the abundance this year; come along with us while we do.

Weaning and Pollinators

On the farm this week, we all felt the pressure of heat as a heat wave swept across the country, and we saw unusual temperatures in the high 90s during the day. Chickens were hot, pigs needed a bath, and the humans were somewhere in between. Gratefully, nighttime temperatures still dropped back down into the 70s, so it was okay sleeping weather.

What does Independence Day mean to you?

I love the cadence of national holidays for their capacity to remind me of all the different ways we can approach a topic. In our nation's independence, and in the celebration of that holiday, there is history, both past and present.

Dinner on the farm & Weaning Piglets

Terron and I weaned another round of piglets this week. Weaning is the process of separating piglet from mama. This may sound like a hear wrenching process, and it can be. However we wait until the piglets are much older than a conventional piglet operation. Allowing piglets to be with their mamas for 8-10 weeks.
