Remember That Album?

Last year in May I mentioned in this newsletter than we recorded an album. Many of you have asked about it over the ensuing months, and we are proud to announce that we finally have a final product to share!

Our band is called Ploughman's Lunch, a name suggested to us by our friend Mary-Nell many years ago and we even have a beer named after us at the Ausable Brewing Co. We have played music together for over a decade and play original music but never had any recordings to share.

After a winter gig at the Water Hole in Saranac Lake we were approached by a local recording engineer named Les Parker, who had grant funds to record new artists. We started putting together a list of songs for our first album and practicing for our first try at recording our music.

We spent an incredible series of afternoons at 22 pawn just down the road from the farm recording our music in a live setting with Les and his arsenal of microphones. At times it was blissful listening back to the music we had created, other times it was exhausting and disheartening to hear your mistakes.

Over the next year we grew together and learned from one another as a group of men trying to create something together.

Ploughman's Lunch is Jay Fiegl, Chad Vogel, Nick Gulli, Nick Bailey and myself Nathan Henderson. We are proud to announce the release of our first self titled album.

Recording and Production by Les Parker
Album Art, design and all things aesthetic by Gwen Vogel
Distribution and so much more by Ralph Lane
Special Thanks to Skip Smithson for mentoring us in the recording process

You can find our album on Apple MusicSpotify and YouTube.

What Does Cold Look Like on the Farm?

The outside thermometer read -10F this morning as the sun was rising. The wind was gusty last night and I was eager to check on the animals this morning. I stoked the wood stove in our living room and poured myself some nettle/mint tea and admired the sun's glow on the mountain tops to the west.

2025 a Year in Review

Thank you to all the many people who responded to my email last week with their own thoughts on what to bring into the new year. I am inspired by the the intentions, opportunities and kindness.

Your New Butcher's Cut

I love to teach and to learn. Since I was little, both have been a way of life for me. When we started our farm now more than 12 years ago, we sold a few beef and pigs by the "whole" or "half" and I learned to be the butcher.
