Drumsticks area a favorite at our table and they fit into almost any type of recipe. Sometimes we smoke them, occasionally we fry them, and we often bake them, but any way they are cooked they are very popular at our dinner table.
Our favorite drumstick recipe is a quick rub and then throw them in the oven or the grill. We love this rub so much we mix it up bulk into a pint container and keep it on hand for a quick chicken wing or drumstick dinner. Here's the basic recipe:
- 1 tablespoon ground pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoons coarse salt
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (we leave this out to keep them mild for the kids)
- Then mix the rub with about 4 lbs of drumsticks or wings (4 pkgs)
- I then melted 1/4 cup of butter, while butter melts, toss in 1/4 cup of lemon juice and add the butter when melted.
- Mix all the ingredients well with the chicken and grill or bake in the oven at 450
