We raise pasture-raised organic chicken, pasture-raised organic pork, 100% grass-fed beef, and maple syrup on our family farm in the Adirondacks. Our farm is situated in the Reber Valley – nestled between the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York and the Lake Champlain Valley of Vermont.
We began Reber Rock Farm in 2013 along with our friends Gwen and Chad Vogel, whom we learned from and worked with at the nearby Essex Farm. After years of mentorship and experience together at Essex Farm, we began Reber Rock under a cooperative ownership model. We were determined to grow grain and mill flour using only draft horses.
The first few crops of sunflowers and corn showed us the rocky soil wasn’t well suited for growing grains. As we listened and learned, our farm shifted to growing pastures and animals, which were a better fit for the land.
In the process, we found no farms in the Northeast were raising their livestock on pasture and feeding them certified organic feed.
We’ve since focused our efforts on bringing you the most humane, sustainable, and high-quality meat you can find.
We have a commitment to stewarding a farm and business that supports a holistic system. This means we put careful consideration into every input – feed, packaging, labor, etc – and how they move toward or away from a more sustainable, ecologically diverse, and just world.
Above raising animals, we are committed to developing the biology and resilience of our land. We utilize agroforestry systems and rotational grazing of perennial crops to support carbon sequestration and wildlife-friendly farming practices.
We are committed to raising our livestock on pasture and feeding only certified organic and non-GMO grain. This is because conventional grain production uses chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. These chemicals leave residues in the soil, on the grain, and in the surrounding ecosystems.
Our animals are never given antibiotics, hormones, or a drug called Paylean – which is given to pigs to keep them from putting on fat and is now banned in 160 countries.
We process all of our chickens at our farm. We also offer custom slaughter and butcher services to other local farms!
We don’t use synthetic nitrates in our smoked meats. Our sausages, broth, and other products use organic spices and vegetables whenever possible.
New in 2025, we are offering certain cuts of meat in plant-based packaging that can be easily added to your compost waste. We use as little plastic as possible to get your delivery to you.
Nathan focuses on how all systems on the farm fit together for maximum mutual benefit and reciprocity. Nathan began his farming career in his mother's garden, but found producing food as a profession while working in California as a geotechnical engineer. Nathan first came to the area and met Racey while they were both working at Essex Farm.
Nathan is also a trained life coach, leading classes and coaching one-on-one sessions in mind-body awareness and life transformation – both on and off the farm! He received his certification as a life coach from the Somatic Coaching Academy in 2023.
When he’s not farming or teaching, Nathan loves playing music, exploring the Adirondacks with his family, and rock climbing.
Racey is in charge of Reber Rock’s strategy, vision and organization – as well as anything else that needs to be done! She is also a humanitarian professional focused on training for practitioners supporting farmers preparing for and recovering from crises of all kinds. She has worked on livelihood issues during peace and crisis globally since 2000 with SEADS.
In 2017, she co-founded Ndara, an African textile company now shipping domestically and internationally from Reber Rock Farm. For the past decade, Racey has also played a key role in local food justice initiatives, such as the Adirondack Food Justice Summit.
While our chicken and pigs are raised at Reber Rock Farm, we’ve partnered with our friends at neighboring farms to offer grass-fed beef, grass-fed and finished lamb, and more.
Our 100% grass-fed and finished beef is raised by Asgaard Farm in the Adirondacks and Snug Valley Farm in Vermont.
Our 100% grass-fed and finished lamb is raised by Kinderhook Farm in Hudson Valley, New York, and Barred Owl Brook Farm and Essex Farm in Essex, New York.
Our partner farmers Chad Vogel and Gwen Jamison-Vogel are still an integral part of the farm. Chad manages the sugar bush, does chicken slaughter, and fixes things around the farm. He also breeds Suffolk Punch draft horses and offers draft-horse-powered logging and restorative forestry services. Gwen also manages the sugar bush, does chicken slaughter, and is a freelance graphic designer.
